The LA Rams are not a chaotic organization. This has been a well-schooled and well-oiled machine. They have done a remarkable job each year of taking raw prospects in one year, hiding them on the practice squad all season, and then unleashing NFL-ready players the following year. And yet, each year an expose over future stars in the NFL will get their share of ‘he sucks!’ in the comment section.

While inevitable, it shows just how short-sighted so many are in their ability to see beyond history and into the future. Children grow up. New recruits become sage veterans. Inexperienced employers become experienced and dependable. Time is an amazing force in our lives, and in the lives of the people around us. But it’s unseen, unfelt, and so many choose to discount its influence on NFL players.

if it were true that players do not improve, then how can you explain the track record of the LA Rams on defense? The list is long indeed. Players like Darious Williams, Cory Littleton, Dante Fowler Jr., Leonard Floyd were all incredibly undervalued players before arriving at the team. By the time their contracts expired, each of them was subject to the same ‘He sucks’ when their arrival was heralded by an article featuring their accomplishments and upside.

So let’s not change the cycle, okay? We’ll continue to feature promising young and undervalued players, and those of you who are hellbent on proclaiming the inevitable cold-shoulder welcome can continue to grumble about the new arrival.  It’s led to some amazing stories so far.
