Okay, you may or may not know this, but 2021 will be a very chaotic offseason. That’s just fine and dandy for the LA Rams, who will find conditions very favorable for their needs this year. How can I say that?

Well, because it’s true. You see, it all starts with the salary cap, takes into consideration the 2021 NFL Free Agency market, and then relies heavily upon the way compensatory picks are awarded. You see, comp picks are limited to 32 per year and are awarded to the teams who have lost the most valuable players via the NFL Free agency market. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

It all begins with the NFL Salary cap falling to such a reduced level.  While the floor has recently been raised from $175 to 180 million, NFL teams will be under even more pressure than ever in 2021 to get under that cap.  Of course, some teams are already well under that amount. But they have landed there due to their unwillingness to shop freely in the NFL Free Agency market, to begin with.

Teams that have shopped are not as fortunate. When teams planned their salary cap situation for 2021, they rightfully expected a slight increase over 2020’s cap. Of course, no team anticipated such a precipitous drop.

That means that players will be released. It’s already started. The Philadelphia Eagles have released WR DeSean Jackson. The Houston Texans released J.J. Watt.  All across the league, solid players are asked to clear out their lockers.

Okay, step one. Lots of available talent being released.
