Young promising OL coach, with FA ties

This is not just a buddy hiring a friend. Carberry knows his stuff. The Washington offensive line was among the NFL’s best units. Washington’s offensive line was third-best in the league for yards, and fifth-best in the NFL per Football Outsiders DVOA. (subscription required)

Of course, that’s easy to do when your offensive line boasts two Pro Bowlers: OT Trent Williams and OG Brandon Scherff. That 2016 unit also included veteran offensive center John Sullivan, who would later join the LA Rams for their Super Bowl run in 2018.

The addition of any new coach brings with it ties to players, prospects, and other coaches. While it may merely be a well-timed coincidence, Carberry worked with both OT Trent Willams and OG Brandon Scherff.  It just so happens that they are currently two of the three top-rated free agents available on the offensive line.

While that’s no guarantee that the Rams will meet their asking price, it does mean that their agents will most certainly listen to offers if LA Rams GM Les Snead gives them a courtesy call to inquire about their asking price.  If the Rams can free up sufficient cap space to get in their ballpark, the mesh of both offensive linemen with their former coaches would certainly be exciting indeed for LA Rams fans.
