It’s no secret that the LA Rams are in the market for talent right now to help refurbish the team’s offense in preparation for the arrival of veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. Of course, the priorities for the arrival of any new quarterback are similar, but when that quarterback is a veteran with over 10 years of playing in the NFL, they take on a bit more urgency.

Despite the perception of a natural disaster, the LA Rams starting five offensive linemen in 2020 were one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. They included left tackle Andrew Whitworth, left guard David Edwards, center Austin Blythe, right guard Austin Corbett, and right tackle Rob Havenstein.

But.

The team began the season with Joseph Noteboom at left guard, where he played better than expected. Noteboom also played eight games at left tackle, where he played admirably. The problems for the team’s offensive line were on full display when Edwards couldn’t play due to an ankle injury, and the team promoted Bobby Evans to the starting five. Evans struggled, Blythe struggled as a result and a now returned-but-yet-fully healthy Whitworth struggled a bit as well.

The Rams’ strong offensive line buckled in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. And that was the last memory fans have to carry them into the offseason. The LA Rams will need answers at the offensive center.  Veteran Austin Blythe is a free agent and will command a salary beyond the Rams’ ability to pay.
