More weapons, mo’ weapons

The LA Rams are looking for ways to create mismatches on offense. While virtually all eyes are turning to the speedy receivers who might interest the Rams offense, it could be that the Rams are outflanking defenses by causing mismatches in their backfield.  With a weapon like 5-foot-9, 189-pound WR/RB hybrid Demetric Felton, that is exactly what they can do.

To no surprise, here is another Senior Bowl standout who now is quite popular among NFL teams. He will hear his name called. The only question is, when? Well, that appears to be sooner rather than later. In fact, it appears that he may not last to the Rams fourth-round pick at 142.

A third-round pick? Hmmm…

So is he worth a valuable third-rounder? Well now, I suppose that depends upon who you talk to. He is very solid at rushing and catching the football. And he is far too talented to be neutralized by NFL linebackers. But beyond the swiss-army-knife offensive versatility, he is adept in special teams at the return game as well.

The Rams would love to leverage their offense. They can do exactly that by creating either-or choices from defenses as to how teams defend them. With a player like Felton on the field, the Rams can attack linebacker heavy defenses with quick passes to the flat.

With defensive back heavy defenses, the Rams can attack with pitchouts and rush the ball up the middle and against the perimeter. That ability to force defenses into bad personnel choices to face the Rams’ offense is something the Rams want to exploit going forward.
