So what are the terms? Well, the market was set quickly by the very well-timed agreement between Tampa Bay Buccaneers and outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett on a four-year deal worth $68 million and guaranteeing $36 million. While he only put up eight sacks and 57 tackles in 2020, he lit up the NFL with 19.5 sacks and 58 tackles in 2019. So he was the pace car.
Coming in next was Ravens Matt Judon, who came off a year with six sacks and 50 tackles. He agreed to terms with the New England Patriots for a four-year deal worth $56 million and guaranteeing $32 million.
So why is that important? Well, they served as bookends, two players whose performances could be agreed to as better than and worse than Leonard Floyd’s production so far.
So the Rams and Floyd’s agent split the difference. That resulted in this announcement today.
That averages out to $16 million per year. While no details about terms or guaranteed money, the fact that the Rams could pull this one off is truly as miraculous as the feeding of the multitudes.
