The LA Rams drafted just one offensive lineman in the 2020 NFL Draft, a talented and versatile 6-foot-4 314-pound offensive lineman from the Clemson Tigers name Tremayne Anchrum. He had a lauded collegiate career at the offensive tackle position, He was All-ACC second team as a junior, and rose to All-ACC first time in his senior season.

He arrived at the Rams in the worst of situations for a rookie hoping to earn a roster spot. The Rams brought back everyone from 2019. Not only was the roster crowded, but the team, at the direction of the NFL, had only a minimal amount of time to practice to prepare for the 2020 NFL season. Tryouts and auditions were placed on the back burner as the team rushed to prepare presumed starters for an NFL season that was happening sooner rather than later.

Regardless of whether or not the Rams re-sign Austin Blythe to claim the center position or draft one of the centers that the team has been talking to leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft, Tremayne Anchrum will have a say in how the Rams’ offensive line shakes out this season.

A versatile player who could prove important in 2021

Per LA Rams GM Les Snead, the LA Rams plan to move him inside for either guard or even as the center position?  Well, the Rams need one of those, offensive centers, this year. And Tremayne Anchrum states that he is ‘ready to battle for any position available.’  We know that the Rams need a center.

We know that the Rams struggled mightily when left guard David Edwards was injured in the playoffs, forcing offensive tackle Bobby Evans to line up at an awkward left guard position. Former left guard Joseph Noteboom was dedicated to backing up the back-but-not-full-strength left tackle Andrew Whitworth.

The Rams were able to squeeze veteran players to restructure their deals to help the team fit under the 2021 salary cap. But that is a small matter compared to setting up the offensive line to win it all for 2021.  That cannot depend upon the five starting linemen to play what may be 20 NFL games, all healthy and intact. That means quality depth with players who can slide right in and play at a playoff-caliber.

LA Rams depth chart

The Rams depth chart for the offensive line in 2020 contributed to the stalling out in the Divisional Round. Don’t look for a repeat in 2021. Yes, the Rams have a hole to fill at the offensive center spot. But do not ignore the depth chart either.

The Rams are loaded with offensive tackles but have a limited number of interior offensive linemen. Tremayne Anchrum was targeted in the 2020 NFL Draft to play that versatile role either inside or outside. LA Rams GM Les Snead believes that Anchrum is ready to step up for the team in 2021.

Surely, the LA Rams cannot keep RB Xavier Jones out of the end zone now. light. Trending

Who are we to disagree with Les Snead?  Tremayne Anchrum has had a year to practice, train, get stronger. And man, when you hear this young man speak, he already talks like a seasoned veteran. He is the real deal, and just wait until you see what LA Rams OL Tremayne Anchrum has been up to for the chance to play for the LA Rams in 2021.
