There are some new buzzwords flying around now that the LA Rams have signed the speedy veteran road-runner wide receiver Desean Jackson via free agency. Suddenly, taking the lid off the defense, the go route, stretching the defense, and going vertical up top are in vogue.

And that’s a good thing. An exciting turn of events, as Jackson represents an instant high-octane injection of explosiveness into the Rams offense. He’s a player no defense can ignore, the kind of player they say you have to always keep an eye on, that you know where he is on the field, keep tabs on.

That’s because the LA Rams think they have found the deep-threat speedster in DJax that the team hasn’t had on the roster since its failed experiment with wide receiver Brandin Cooks. You see, in hindsight, maybe Cooks wasn’t the problem. Maybe the problem was the LA Rams? And now the Rams think that problem is solved.

Seller’s remorse?

The LA Rams traded away Cooks after a big paycheck and a minuscule return. The Rams did get a second-round pick in 2020 but gave away a 2022 fourth-round pick with Cooks to the Houston Texans. This year, all Cooks did for the Texans was play in 15 games, push the ball 1,150 yards down the field, and into the end zone for six touchdowns. So that sort of production changed a few perceptions about the player he was for the Rams, didn’t it?

Maybe, just maybe, the Rams have tasted a bit of seller’s remorse for letting Cooks go.

The LA Rams believe that they have the right quarterback now in Matthew Stafford. The team believes that an offense with wide receivers Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, Van Jefferson, and tight ends Tyler Higbee and Brycen Hopkins is now suddenly even more difficult to defend with the addition of the veteran road-runner. Now, the team believes that Jackson is the type of player that no defense can ignore, the kind of player they say you have to always keep an eye on, that you have to know where he is on the field, keep tabs on him.
