LA Rams 2021 NFL Draft resembles 2019 NFL Draft
By Bret Stuter
History is a funny thing. The more you study it, the more cyclical events seem to be. For example, the LA Rams enter the 2021 NFL Draft with just six picks and a lot of team needs. Curiously, the LA Rams very recently faced a similar seven-pick draft. Just two short years ago, and the Rams were coming out of a Super Bowl appearance.
That was as recently as the 2019 NFL Draft when the Rams entered with picks at 31, 94, 99, 133, 169, 203, and 251. Compare those picks to the LA Rams’ current assortment of picks at 57, 88, 103, 141, 209, and 252.
Wow. The comparisons of the Rams 2019 Free Agency were dramatically similar to the 2021 Free Agency. In that year, the Rams lost safety LeMarcus Joyner, DL Ndamukong Suh, RB C.J. Anderson, OLB Marc Longacre, 15 all totaled. The mood of the Rams
Do you recall how that turned out? The team emerged from that draft, having selected eight times. Seven of those eight players selected are still with the team, three of whom are competing for starting roles this year, and the other four are productive contributors to the team’s rotation.
If not for an outbreak of injuries to the Rams offensive line, and overall roster, the Rams would have returned to the playoffs. That includes the 20/20 hindsight of quarterback Jared Goff beginning to struggle and the knowledge that the Rams reworked the entire defensive secondary midway through the NFL season.
