LA Rams meet with 17th prospect ST standout Eli Stove
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams may have just six picks in the upcoming draft, but don’t tell them that. In fact, don’t tell the team anything right now, as they seem very much to be on a roll. You see, the Rams have been making the rounds of NFL draft hopefuls. Perhaps that is because, as many expect, the Rams are open to selecting almost anywhere in the 2021 NFL Draft.
It’s a reasonable strategy. And one we will explore readily. But for now, suffice it to say that the LA Rams have not only found the time to meet with a wide range of prospects hoping to hear their name called in the upcoming draft but from a wide range of positions as well.
The Rams are far from done. The team struggled mightily in both the coverage and return aspects of special teams. Of course, there are valid reasons for that. With little time to install the 2020 plays for the season last year, no organized team activities (OTAs), no preseason games, and only virtual familiarity of coaches to new players, special teams units were at a severe disadvantage in 2020.
Even veterans of the team were unfamiliar as they auditioned for new roles on return or coverage units. It was so bad last year, even a fair catch of a punt without a fumble seemed to be cause enough to celebrate. Wide receiver Cooper Kupp was given a chance to audition as a kick returner/punt returner last year. It was not pretty.
