LA Rams Mock Draft 2021: Trade w Lions, Bears nets 9 picks
By Bret Stuter
Round six, pick 204
With the 204th pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, the LA Ramsr select defensive end Chauncey Golston form the University of Iowa. The LA Rams know that they will need help at defensive end. With the loss of both Morgan Fox and Michael Brockers, the strength of the Rams 2020 defense is suddenly a bit shallow. Well, not for long. With this selection the Rams selected three players they had met with prior to the draft.
The Rams love to focus upon players who do well in the Senior bowl and that fits Golston to a tee. The 6-foot-5 270-pound defensive lineman has one heckuva week at the Senior Bowl. Not only is he extremely effective, but he is very versatile as well.
A good defense in the NFL is predicated upon players who can line up at multiple positions and let ‘er fly. With Golston, the Rams will find that he can line up at all three defensive line positions and attack the ball carrier as soon as the ball is snapped. In many draft boards he is a fourth-round prospect, but this is a zany year and he falls to 204 and to the Rams here.
With this pick, the Rams roster is truly beginning to take shape. Golston is one of those twitchy dangerous defensive lineman who wilts when the offensive line puts multiple blockers on him. But that won’t happen when he lines up to Aaron Donald. He slides in nicely to the spot vacated by Morgan Fox.
