No good deed goes unpunished. –American financier John P. Grier, banker Andrew W. Mellon, and writer Clare Boothe Luce, but its ultimate origin is unknown
If you have even been in a nightclub or bar scene, you know that the stories that emerge can sometimes be far from the truth. The problem with initial reports that surfaced from an alleged altercation from the Pittsburgh vicinity involving LA Rams All-Pro defensive lineman Aaron Donald was that it was a one-sided tale. As we stated at the time, details were only now surfacing, and investigations from a number of sources into the incident began just 24 hours ago.
In our initial report of the news, we were careful to cite that the report cited accusations, not facts. In our second report following up on the narrative, we urged even more caution.
"“Allegations are just accusations. At this time, that is all this is.” -per Bad optics can pose long-term impact for LA Rams Aaron Donald"
The news was far from detailed. It was a sketchy morning-after verbal narrative from a man who was on the receiving end of a physical altercation. There was a celebrity in the room with deep pockets. He named the celebrity the assailant. Deep pockets attract that type of attention. But even as we continued to lay out the facts, we ensured that we maintained our poise.
A man accused a man. 24 hours ago, that was all that was known.
"“But we are far from disciplinary action. All we know right now is that a man named DeVincent Spriggs in Pittsburgh alleges an assault by Rams Aaron Donald between 3-4 AM on April 11, 2021, at 1713 E Carson St, Pittsburgh, PA 15203 in an upstairs after-hours club known by locals as the Boom Boom Room.” – per Bad optics can pose long-term impact for LA Rams Aaron Donald"
Now new evidence is surfacing. It’s now Aaron Donald’s lawyer, Casey White, who has the floor. And his assertions coupled with surveillance video footage taken during the event in question tell a completely different story.
Per Pittsburgh’s WPXI.com News Staff, Donald’s Attorney White made a statement today that Donald tried to stop a fight — and that there’s surveillance video to prove it. Well, there is video footage, both in the club and in the streets. And it appears to support that claim.
The action carried out into the street, where once more the video presented appears to show Aaron Donald as trying to break up the attack.
The investigation continues, but this certainly changes the story completely. And we again caution all to reserve your decisions until all facts are known and presented. Details continue to surface, and we will share any information we receive as quickly as possible.
