Well, it didn’t take long after video evidence surfaced to reframe the narrative out of the Pittsburgh assault story. ESPN revealed via multiple outlets, Adam Schefter on Facebook and Instagram, and Lindsey Thiry on ESPN’s webpage, that DeVincent Spriggs mistook LA Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald for the assailant who caused him to receive treatment at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.

The Attorney representing Spriggs, Todd J. Hollis, had originally named Aaron Donald as the assailant that left his client with a broken orbital bone and 16 stitches. Now, per ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry, he is offering an apology to Aaron Donald on behalf of his client for mistaken identity.

Funny coincidence about that. The apology comes right on the heels of the release of two surveillance videos, taken both inside the club and outside the club on the street, that show that Aaron Donald was not the assailant in either scenario. In fact, the visual evidence appears to show Aaron Donald as a peacemaker on both occasions. It appears that Donald wades into the fracas to pull attackers off Spriggs before Donald’s own associates escort Donald away from the scene.

Aaron Donald’s attorney, Casey White, described the incident leading up to the physical altercation as a case of an intoxicated Spriggs stumbling into and digging his elbow into Aaron Donald’s back.
which Donald initially brushed off, thinking it likely was someone he knew.

"“He turned around, and it’s this Mr. Spriggs … and Aaron goes, ‘What’s up?’ and Mr. Spriggs starts yelling belligerently, ‘Did I mean to? Did I mean to?’ He keeps repeating. It’s kind of nonsensical, but he keeps yelling, ‘Did I mean to?’ It’s apparent to Aaron and it’s apparent to all the witnesses that [Spriggs] is intoxicated,”- Donad’s attorney Casey White per ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry"

With this apology, it appears that the matter is all but settled, at least where Aaron Donald is concerned.

There has not been an official statement of the police investigation concluding to date. The matter may continue as police sort through who was actually involved and to determine if any charges are to be brought against anyone who has yet to be identified as a result based on their findings of the matter.
