When the LA Rams head coach Sean McVay joins NFL analyst Rich Eisen, you know good things are bound to happen. And with the 2021 NFL Draft rapidly approaching, it’s a perfect time to hail the benefits and bonuses of landing the veteran quarterback that so many NFL teams wanted to land in the off-season. Of course, we’re talking about former Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.

While former LA Rams quarterback Jared Goff developed his offensive skillset under the watchful eye and very controlled environment of McVay’s offense, Stafford learned a different offense in a completely different method. If you can equate Goff’s NFL intelligence as a by-product of an academic prep school, then Stafford is the street-smart tough guy who learned much of what he knows by trial and error.

While Goff was expected to learn a progression of A then B then C, Stafford was frantically running for his life, threading the needle, playing from behind, and hurling bombs in an attempt to win NFL games. Goff was classroom instruction academia. Stafford got his hands dirty in a real-time application of offensive theory.

Perhaps that is what the excitement is all about, anyway? You see, Stafford’s NFL career has had its share of hard knocks and innovating something out of nothing. He’s had his fill of extending plays, working to find the barest shred of separation, threading needles from 50 yards away.

And while he can still do all of that, he now wants something to show for it. He wants to win in the regular season, win in the NFL Playoffs, and win a Super Bowl. Of course, that’s the plan. Hopefully, this plan will prove to come true.
