Writing is one of those tasks that need the right space to be successful. To help me write so many articles, I have assembled a man cave in my home. Nothing very elaborate, but it’s a place with my computer, a comfy desk chair, plenty of NFL books, and decorum that screams “I write NFL stories” to anyone who visits my workspace. It’s my haven, a place where I can enter armed with nothing more than a cup of hot coffee and my wits and write NFL articles. And that’s all I need. For the LA Rams scouting department and executives on draft day? Well, they get the upgraded version.
When the Rams pony up to the podium, they are not picking for the future of the LA Rams organization. They are picking with LA style. And that makes all the difference in the world.
If you have experience in both East Coast and West Coast worlds, you know that there are plenty of differences. East Coast lifestyle is about living the life that never sleeps. It’s a culture where hustle and bustle are admired qualities. Ties are still not optional in an office setting. Beats are loud and fast-paced.
But on the West Coast, life slows a bit. A picturesque sunset over the water is the masterpiece ending of another day. A beach house is an epitome of where real work gets done. And so, the LA Rams will make-do at their draft day digs.
Now, this is the way they do it in L.A. Not suits and ties. It’s more along the lines of waves and Mai Tais.
That’s how things get done in Los Angeles.
On draft day, phones will be ringing off the hook. And the tension and stress will be tangible. But the sounds of the waves will be pounding the sand just outside the door of the LA Rams draft headquarters. It’s a stressful time in a stress-free zone.
But as the song from Sheryl Crow “All I Wanna Do” says so masterfully:
Hit it
This ain’t no disco
It ain’t no country club either
This is L.A.
The LA Rams are on the clock.
