The time ex-LA Rams QB Jared Goff pranked a college team
By Jay Blucher
The year was 2018 and the video was simply called “The Transfer”. It was a unique video as it featured now ex-LA Rams QB Jared Goff pranking a Ventura College team, in which he posed as Trey Vogue, a transfer student that’s about to take the field as the team’s new QB.
The video opens with Goff emerging in full disguise donning a long-haired wig and sporting neck and arm tattoos that make him almost totally unrecognizable. Oh, and a Marilyn Monroe-esque face mole to complete the masquerade.
And with the help of a head coach that totally plays along to sell the prank (and an expert makeup team), Goff totally nails the role. It’s actually one of my favorite videos because it is so very well done.
The VC coach announces to the assembled team in the locker room that there is a new transfer QB coming to the team today that is looking for a place to play. And it’s Goff in disguise.
Goff sells the role by missing a few throws deliberately at first, planting seeds in the minds of the team’s players he’s nervous about walking onto the stage, and taking a few practice snaps. He’s totally in synch with being in character of a walk-on transfer.
And then he unleashes his NFL arm on some unsuspecting receivers and the ball spins out of his hand and zips down the field in the tightest of windows.
The head coach says to his coaching staff at one point, “You see that throw against Cover-2? We haven’t had a quarterback do that in a while.” (The staff is unaware of the prank now in full progress).
Then with the team assembled at mid-field, he announces to the team how everyone has to compete for a spot and how he doesn’t care who he brings in to compete, “even an NFL quarterback, which is exactly what I’ve done today.” And then as he smugly announces the prank, Goff stands up and takes off his wig. The expressions on the VC players’ faces is simply priceless.
To a man, the entire team was clueless about the subterfuge.
Amongst all the fond memories Goff brought to LA Rams fans on the gridiron, this one’s a favorite for what he brought off the gridiron.
Enjoy it again, below. I never tire of watching it.
