NFL Draft 2021: LA Rams 5 bold OL predictions
By Bret Stuter
Prediction IV
The Rams will draft an offensive center on day three of the 2021 NFL Draft. Would we like it to have a different narrative? Of course. But there are a number of NFL teams in need of an offensive center in this draft. And all of the competing teams will draft twice before the Rams get to make their first selection.
That competition for what is likely no more than three offensive centers with day two grades (Landon Dickerson, Creed Humphrey, Quinn Meinerz) will place the Rams into a tailspin if they try to reach for a remaining offensive center on day two. So the Rams can and will likely address other needs, particularly if a highly regarded prospect falls to them in round two.
At some point, the Rams will likely trade back. In fact, based on the uncertainty of this draft and the likely diverse ranking on individual prospects, the LA Rams should have no shortage of willing trade partners if they should elect to trade back several times throughout the course of this year’s draft.
Of course, trading back from rounds two and three invariably pushes the Rams into selecting prospects in day three of the draft, from rounds four through seven. There should be plenty of compelling value as the Rams descend to the later rounds. A number of prospects have intriguing production, and yet are not rising any further than round four. It’s a deep class for wide receivers, defensive backs, and linebackers. All of these positions are targeted by the Rams this year.
