LA Rams News Rams Draft

In 2020, the LA Rams defensive secondary was a pretty crowded and talented spot for the team. While the Rams needed safeties, the depth of the cornerback position seemed adequate to enter the 2020 NFL season.  All in all, the Rams have All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, 2019 starting cornerbacks Troy Hill and Darious Williams.

The Rams added CB Donte Deayon from the NY Giants waiver wire in 2018, and another key addition in 2019 in the form of rookie David Long Jr.  After that, there was not much interest in adding more players to the roster at the position in the 2020 NFL Draft.

So they didn’t.

Instead, the Rams drafted two safeties in Terrell Burgess and Jordan Fuller. Then the team added safeties after the draft by the name of JuJu Hughes and J.R. Reed. The safety position has seven players to choose from on the Rams roster.  For cornerbacks? The roster is down to four players. And one of the Rams starters, Darious Williams, will hit free agency in 2022.

So the pressure is on for the Rams to find some cornerbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft, and quickly. Now for some good news. The LA Rams are ‘on it’.  The team has reportedly met with five cornerbacks in pre-draft meetings.

The list includes UCF CB Tay Gowan (two meetings were reported with the same prospect), Oregon’s CB Thomas Graham, San Diego State’s CB Darren Hall, and Florida State’s CB Asante Samuel Jr. (two meetings were reported with the same prospect), and Washington CB Elijah Molden. That’s a pretty well-represented spectrum of players.
