A matching set?

Well, you might as well say Fassell is trying to get the old band back together. And he’s already got two out of the three pieces assembled down there in Jerry’s World. The signing of Bojorquez by the Rams represents the third domino to allow the team to procure the third piece in Hekker.

To wit, it appears there are signs afoot of something else altogether happening as well. And so, we humbly submit Exhibit B.

Last month, long-time Dallas Cowboys punter Chris Jones was cut,  thereby shaving $2 million off their salary cap.  The team signed punter Brian Anger, who joins Hunter Niswander on the Cowboys roster as punters for the upcoming 2021 NFL season. Watch how fast either of that pair gets lopped off if they snag Hekker from the Rams. Still, Hekker is contracted to play for the Rams this season.

Nevertheless, there’s that troublesome Exhibit A track record we cited at the opening of this article. And even the staunchest skeptics gotta admit – the signing of Bojorquez was a curious move.  So all this speculation and machination-  for what?

For draft picks. The Cowboys got ’em. The Rams need’ em. The Rams just lined up their next punter. At the very least, it puts the Rams in a position where they are capable of making that deal. They now have, um, flexibility. They don’t have to rely on a backup “emergency punter” off the far end of the bench. They just signed the top-rated punter in the league. That was a move dripping with deliberate intention.
