LA Rams need a Sol helmet to kick off the 2021 NFL season

As we (okay, I) impatiently wait to hear some news, any news to come a-dribbling out from LA Rams HQ (okay, they are likely sipping Mint Juleps and talking their first muscle cars at the temporary draft headquarters at the 9000 square-foot Malibu beach house)  about a new uniform for the upcoming season, I got to wondering about something which strikes me as a rather glaring omission from their current attire choices.

And so, without further adieu, I propose (flourish drum roll) that the Rams consider a Yellow Sol Helmet. Make that sucker garishly bright. You can even incorporate that current hot mess of a logo into it. . . . if you must. But here’s hoping a really intense yellow will better mask or perhaps even drown out that abomination of that current penis-inspired logo design. (Eric Dickerson’s words, not ours)

The outcry from that initial shock may not be as vocal, but there are still heads shaking from the design. It’s time to change the narrative from what-the-hell-is-that? to Whoa-would-you-look-at that?!

Sol yellow, not School Bus Yellow Tractor yellow

On the plus side, no other NFL team can say they sport a bright yellow helmet. Sure, you can say that the cheeseheaded Green Bay Packers do, but there’s a difference between Sol Yellow and School Bus Yellow Tractor. (that’s the color match).

I see a huge opportunity to award bonus points to the Rams this year for originality, stepping out, forward-fashion thinking. Or perhaps for their nostalgia. You see, the original uniform of the Rams boasted a yellow helmet in 1939 and 1940. And when the team moved to Los Angeles in 1946, guess what color the Rams helmet was? That’s right, yellow.

Something along the lines of this artistic conception is where I’m going with all this:

You see, I happen to think uniforms and logos matter a great deal. That design, that logo is the essence, the foundation of your team’s “brand.” And for fans, it’s a touchstone, a connection to your team.

A competitive edge

As much thought and consideration need to go into that choice as putting together the upcoming season’s roster or who you’re gonna’ let Roger Goodell announce is your choice
“with the 57th selection of the 2021 NFL Draft, the LA Rams select…”
in round two of this very important draft. And from a mere marketing and money-in-the-coffers-at-SoFi-standpoint, nobody buys an ugly uniform combo. Nobody gifts a jersey to their kid of an ugly one, either.

Are you listening, Cleveland Browns? Cuz you’re the one team whose uniform just screams blah, bland, blander, blandest of them all. You guys need an emergency intervention makeover, a do-over, a mulligan. You need to circle back on that uninspired (insert word here that’s appropriate for young readers).

Los Angeles is doubly challenged in this department because they must get it right. That other team that plays in LA has two distinct advantages – cool lightning bolts and powder blue hues. The stakes are high. And while our guys have (or had) Rams’ curlicue horns, the team is also competing for fan loyalty in a shared city.

Trending. Is LA Rams David Edwards an offensive tackle or guard?. light

Therefore, it’s gotta be right, gotta’ be tight and gotta’ be on point. So give us some of that Yellow Sol.
