None of us can (or even should) presume to be as knowledgeable or familiar with the intricacies and nuances of this upcoming draft as LA Rams GM Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay undoubtedly already are. But there are certain aspects and well, peculiarities about this draft that jump out at us. And so we dare to offer some unsolicited advice. A bit of do’s and don’ts as it were.

There can be little doubt that this year’s draft is almost completely devoid of consensus, other than as many eight quarterbacks could be taken in the first round. There is also a fairly broad agreement that it’s a very deep draft for wide receivers and offensive linemen. Beyond those two observations, the professional pundits agree on very little about this draft.

Usually, there is a baseline of conventional wisdom about a draft, but not this year. There won’t be any drama or intrigue about which player will hear his name called with the first pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. We all agree that Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is a lock. But beyond that, uncertainty will rule the day. It will be a roller coaster ride. Not just in the form of who is picked, but undoubtedly in the number of trades involved in this draft.

Mock drafts are all over the map. Some players projected to go in the first round by many observers don’t even crack the top 100 prospects list in the other guy’s predictions. This year’s draft will almost certainly be chaotic, with multiple teams trading up and down and jockeying for position.

And the Rams might be one of those teams trading back in the draft, but almost certainly not up. (Because even if the Rams were to package every draft pick the team has this year, the entire bundle of picks would only possibly leap-frog them into the very tail end of the first round, at best.)
