Game changer

Reason I: Wide receiver Julio Jones is a bona fide game-changer. The LA Rams sorta kinda maybe sometimes have one in WR Robert Woods, but not even Woods scares a defensive coordinator quite as much as Julio Jones. There’s no secondary in the league that can cover Jones.  Nada. Zip.

The only cornerback that can even come close to covering Jones just happens to play for the Rams in All-Pro defensive back Jalen Ramsey. Now, get both on the same team, and the LA Rams suddenly own the skies over SoFi Stadium. Not just on offense, but on defense as well.

From the moment that the LA Rams added Matthew Stafford, there was an expectation that the other shoe would drop. Even as the Rams pursued and signed DeSean Jackson, the team felt hollow. You see, new quarterback Matthew Stafford loves to throw at tight coverages with an expectation that the receiver will wrestle for the ball. So far, the Rams have made it a point to create lots of separation.

So the Rams offense needs Jones. He is the epitome of catching contested balls. He can balance on two tiptoes to ensure he gets an inbounds signal from the official. He can extend those stretchy arms to haul in an out-of-bounds pass to claim a touchdown in the end zone.  If the Rams made it a point to invest in the quarterback, they might as well throw in another stack of cash to get the best WR in the NFL.
