NFL Draft 2021: Top 10 LA Rams prospects from the Big-12
By Bret Stuter
Offensive tackle
The third prospect from the Big 12 Conference is the humongous offensive tackle out of Texas, named Sam Cosmi (6.26-grade per NFL.com). At some point, the LA Rams will turn a draft pick or two onto the offensive line, and this is a good of a year as any of doing so.
Los Angeles Rams
Cosmi is one of those under-the-radar types who is every bit the NFL prospect at offensive tackle but falls under the top ten or so prospects so nobody is talking about him. That’s just fine with the LA Rams, who really cannot compete draft-wise among the popular prospects. So they focus on true value and find an incredible bargain in this young man.
He is 6-foot-6 and weighs in at 314-pounds. blessed with a low center of gravity for a big man and good athleticism. Built to pass protect as a true left tackle, his bread and butter is leaning back and absorbing the powerful contact from the edge, and then riding the bucking bronco in a wide arc to steer him clear of the quarterback.
He’ll need to refine his technique in the NFL, as the diverse moves of pro pass rushers will pattern his blocking tendencies and quickly come up with effective counter moves. He projects as a solid round-two prospect who could slip to the Rams at 57. If the Rams want a successor to Whitworth? Sam Cosmi could be that guy.
