The LA Rams are many things, but they are not a team guilty of instant gratification. This is a team that understands that the draft is not a sprint, but a marathon. That race extends over three days, 255 picks, and even extends into the period after the draft. The Rams will turn the corner in round four of the 2021 NFL Draft, won’t they?

Well, the Rams certainly have taken the first step as the team opens up with a defensive tackle from Texas A&M named Bobby Brown III.  Per the NFL draft tracker, he was the top defensive lineman on the board and was a Round Three graded prospect.

He is a 6-foot-4, 321-pound defensive powerhouse and played three seasons in NCAA football. In 29 games, he racked up 57 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, and six quarterback sacks. He is a mauler, a take-no-prisoners type.

This is a solid addition to the Rams who face the potential loss of NT Sebastian Joseph Day to the 2022 NFL Free Agency market. He’ll have plenty of time to ramp up to that level of production. Thankfully, he won’t need to put on the shoulder pads and immediately hit the ground running. He’ll have the luxury of working into the rotation.

He has the size and power who can handle the nose tackle, but he has enough length to slide over to the defensive end role and let Greg Gaines handle the middle of the defensive line. He is a tough kid, and I’m actually excited to see what he can do next to All-Pro defensive lineman Aaron Donald. While he may not toss the quarterback to the ground a dozen or so times, he certainly has the right makeup for a player who would shine in Donald’s shadow.
