LA Rams WR TuTu Atwell: Can a smurfy WR survive the NFL?
By Jay Blucher
Stretching the field or getting a stretcher?
There’s little doubt Atwell can stretch the field for new QB Matthew Stafford based on his blazing speed. After all, is said and done, the Rams want to blow the back door off of NFL defenses, and certainly, Tutu Atwell is a player who they believe can help them do exactly that. So how fast is this guy anyway? Depends on who you talk to, I suppose.
Los Angeles Rams
One source had him clocked at 4.38-seconds for his 40-yard dash, one of the fastest in the entire NFL Draft and has been clocked as low as 4.27-seconds on his 40-yard time by Pro Football Network. He racked up 1,276 receiving yards at Louisville last year, and there’s a rumor circulating out there he coulda’ compiled even more yardage if his quarterback could throw the deep ball a little better.
That’s not going to be an issue with Stafford.
Of course, head coach Sean Mcvay wanted more explosiveness out of his offense this upcoming season, and he gets a fleet-footed playmaker, a speedy gadgets player for reverses and jet-sweeps, and a punt and a kick returner who can outrun the coverage. All that’s easy enough to see at first blush why the Rams thought so highly of this young man.
Watching his tape and his highlight reel, got me thinking about what player he reminds me of. And it’s actually a former Los Angeles Rams player, a speedy one at that.
