Offensive players

If the LA Rams roster is about putting huge markets onto the field, then 6-foot-6 262-pound tight end Kendall Blanton is a sure-fire candidate to make the team’s 53-man roster for the 2021 NFL season.

Why he could see a larger role in 2021:

The LA Rams clearly will never have enough players at the receiver position. Despite the Rams’ affinity to athletic big receivers in the 2021 NFL Draft, Kendall Blanton was the prototype. He is big, strong, fast, and can block, run, and catch.  He’s just a huge player, a huge target, and he has been with the Rams long enough to hopefully pull it all together this year and earn a true roster spot.

Why he won’t see a larger role in 2021:

The same reason for other players listed previously. He was signed to the team as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and has yet to make the roster. That a tough reputation to shake, particularly as the Rams have now added so many more offensive weapons. Has his window already closed?

Offensive workhorse

The LA Rams offensive line would have fallen apart completely if not for the plug-n-play ability of reserve offensive lineman Jamil Demby. This 6-foot-5 321-pound monster has been the LA Rams emergency spare for each offensive line position. In 2020, he hoped to focus upon one position but was instead assigned to the practice squad.

Why he could see a larger role in 2021:

He has the experience to show up and perform at virtually any offensive line position. He is the poster child of a jack-of-all-trades, and that ability to slide into any position of need was critical as the Rams endured numerous injuries across the offensive line. He could restore himself by proving he has the ability to start if needed.  He showed up huge in the 2018 Senior Bowl. Now, he must recapture that tenacity and prowess. His 2018 draft profile indicated that he was a future NFL starter. If not now, then likely never

Why he won’t see a larger role in 2021:

The Rams have plenty of need for versatile offensive linemen.  But the demotion to the practice squad was a bit counterproductive. With a new offensive line coach, will Demby have a new lease on life? The Rams could certainly use a huge powerhouse to help fill the ranks of the offensive line. Still, with all of the talk of offensive linemen who might step up, Demby’s name hasn’t been mentioned.
