Julio Jones brings huge value to playoff teams

Okay, so there are hidden costs to acquiring Julio Jones. So why are teams even willing to explore any trade scenario? Simply stated, he brings with him tremendous value to any playoff contender. Let’s be honest with ourselves. If the LA Rams face an NFL team that has Julio Jones on the roster, guess who defensive back Jalen Ramsey will be covering?  That’s right, Julio Jones.

Jones is an immediate upgrade to any NFL playoff contender because he simply does things without much thought that other receivers cannot hope to duplicate. He has strong hands, incredible speed, and he boasts a solid route tree.

Yes, the LA Rams boast a competent receiving group. But the fact is that the skillsets of Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, and even Van Jefferson are markedly similar.   That has changed somewhat with the addition of veteran DeSean Jackson. But Julio Jones brings a completely new and dangerous skillset.  And that skill set aligns very closely with the strengths of new veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford.

If Matthew Stafford is the new 2021 pickup truck you have always wanted, then Julio Jones is the trailer hitch package that allows you to two so much more along with you on whatever journey you intend to go. Of course, offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell and head coach Sean McVay can scheme practically any offensive outcome, so Julio Jones is not as necessary in the Ram offense as say he might be in the Tennessee Titans offense.

Many see indications of the LA Rams showing interest in Julio Jones with some element of emotional reactions. Nobody knows the future, so there is no need for an emotional outburst before anything happens. The LA Rams have been doing a pretty good job so far, and the organization has earned some trust that they will continue to do a pretty good job into the future. For now, we wait.

I don’t think we’ll need to wait for long. Now that it’s June 1st, I expect that some NFL team will land Atlanta Falcons WR rather quickly.
