More opportunities

The LA Rams reward consistency by the number of offensive snaps. Even as he has played alongside teammate Cooper Kupp, Woods has remained the receiver who stays on the field longer in each game, and in each season. He is simply dependable. And if there is one way to get on head coach Sean McVay’s good list, it’s performing at a high level with consistency.

Of course, it’s nothing to perform with intense dependability if you are Robert Woods, but that does not mean that it doesn’t come with its own rewards. Crisp execution endears a player to the coaches. The more the coaches trust that player, the more action he sees.

That’s why Bobby Trees is more frequently on the field for the Rams than any other receiver. He has earned the trust of the coaching staff. What they ask for, he delivers. While that may sound easy peasy lemon squeezy, it is both incredibly difficult to do on a consistent basis and even more difficult now with a 17 game season.   That’s delivering each time for 1000 plus offensive plays. The amount of concentration required alone is mind-boggling.

And yet, Woods does it year in and year out. And the more he does it, the more capable he seems to be of doing it again. That translates into more time on the field, more offensive snaps, and more opportunity to do well. Volume is a key component to huge statistical years. With Robert Woods almost certain to have the most offensive snaps of all the receivers on the roster, it’s simply the math. He will lead the receivers in yards because he gets the most work.
