Who the hell is that skyscraper?

The LA Rams navigated a very unusual draft strategy.  The team bypassed the obvious needs that everyone expected the team to address, such as offensive linemen and defenders (many expected multiple picks at linebacker, cornerback, or outside linebacker). Instead, the Rams followed their own shopping list.

We will feature Tutu Atwell in future articles. That leaves wide receiver/tight end Jacob Harris, defensive end Earnest Brown IV, running back Jake Funk, and wide receiver/tight end Ben Skowronek as a topic for another day. But what are we looking at with their rookie seasons?

Tight end Jacob Harris is an athletic freak, and at 6-foot-5 and 220-pounds, the parallels between his potential and some of the NFL’s greats, like Calvin Johnson, are obvious and have already been made. He is a rare combination of huge size and lightning speed, and you can bet that LA Rams head coach Sean McVay is already white-boarded the hell out of plays to feature this rookie.

It’s difficult to GPS where Jacob Harris will fit in this Rams offense. Will he get the playbook and blocking scheme down quickly enough to contribute this year? The historic trend suggests no. The Rams’ tendency to redshirt offensive weapons leads us to believe he won’t be an impact for the Rams this year.

But there it is, a clear mismatch in the endzone for a score. That happened against Robert Rochell, the 6-foot-2 rookie defensive back who is huge and talented.  Jacob Harris is such a huge weapon X for this Rams offense. If the LA Rams can get him onto the field, he could have an incredible season.
