Speculation is all you get out of a rookie’s OTA debut

Sure, it’s all speculation and conjecture right now. It’s a future that is full of twists, turns, dead ends, and cul-de-sacs. But the starting point for Jacob Harris’s NFL career is very promising. And his raw athletic talent gives him the chance to be somebody very special in the NFL.

Don’t just take my word for it. Head coach Sean McVay has already noticed the incredible potential in Jacob Harris. And that has prompted him to name Harris as one of the pleasant OTA standouts so far for the team.

"“Jacob Harris is a guy that’s definitely stood out. Just his overall speed and athleticism, you kind of feel him on the field. But that’s been in some of the limited, 7-on-7s and kind of running routes on air. That’s not how you really play football, so there is a real variance when you actually include the offensive and defensive lines. But just the overall athleticism and some of the things that he and Wes (Rams TEs coach Wes Phillips) have been working on the last few weeks in his improvement, he’s somebody that comes to mind.” – LA Rams head coach Sean McVay per ESPN’s Eric D. Willams"

That’s about as good of an endorsement as McVay will give a rookie this early. Measured, deliberate, but honest praise.

That’s pretty significant to a young man who was a late convert from soccer to football. He has a lot of basic foundation football knowledge to assemble as he catches the coaches’ eyes. And with little on-field footage to review, he is truly a product of the LA Rams investment into a more data-analytics draft.

Yes, he has all of the necessary raw ingredients to become a special NFL player. To realize all of that promise, he will need great coaching, magnanimous patience, a dedicated off-the-charts work ethic, and a commitment to become the best football player that he can become. That is no easier than turning groceries into a 5-star banquet.
