Let’s build a better burger

We mentioned earlier that head coach Sean McVay is out to build a better burger with the addition of DeSean Jackson to the LA Rams offense. So how does he go about doing that? Well, like any aspect of an offense, the trick is to surprise defenses, make defenses fear the deep ball, and then weave an occasional deep ball into the play calling to ensure that the offense dictates defensive coverage. So how do the LA Rams go about that?

Well, the first game of the season is a good place to debut the deep ball from Stafford to Jackson. Is the first play of the game too obvious? Perhaps. But over the course of that football game, a deep touchdown strike to DeSean Jackson will place the entire NFL on notice. Defenses will scramble to invent coverages to stop Jackson from catching the football and speeding into the end zone.

So the next opportunity should create fear. Get the ball to Jackson five times. Allow Jackson to churn out 100+ yards as soon as possible. That will double down on the Rams passing game featuring the long bomb, which in turn should create opportunities for the Rams to run and pass all over the field. Then, sprinkle in an occasion bomb to Jackson, and add several options to give the Rams an opportunity to run or pass intermediate routes from a similar formation.

As long as the Rams maintain the threat of DeSean Jackson in this offense, they can mete out passes thrown his way to ensure he is less likely to be injured. Jackson is a very dangerous weapon as the Rams enter their playoff run and the actual NFL Playoffs.  Even as the Rams work through synching up Stafford with the receiving corps, as long as Jackson can suit up he is always capable of scoring.

light. Trending. Can LA Rams rookie WR/TE Jacob Harris aspire to be Megatron 2.0?

Teasing defenses with 10-15 plays of DeSean Jackson on the football field will force the defensive coordinators to address that in their game planning. Even if the Rams do not get Jackson on the football field as often as that, they have forced the opposing defense to dedicate their planning as though it would.

In the end, building a better burger is not always slathering the meat patty with tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, bacon, cheese, mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, onions, and relish. The trick is to add just enough to enhance the flavor. Look for Desean Jackson to enhance the LA Rams offense this year. After all, the LA Rams and head coach Sean McVay’s offense is the perfect gig for WR DeSean Jackson. Not only will DJax make a difference on the football field, but he’ll make a difference in the locker room, too.
