LA Rams rookie running back Cam Akers did not have an easy go of it in 2020. Despite the early selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, the former running back from Florida State University had quite the load of homework to cover almost as soon as he arrived at his new NFL home. There was so much to learn and in such a short time.

As the Rams brought him along slowly, they added checkmarks to their playbook when Akers learned the play.  Ultimately, Cam Akers proved to the coaching staff and the NFL that he was ready by unleashing his potential in the NFL Playoffs. That earned him the role of the feature running back for 2021.

And why not? He’s proven he can run for huge gains. Now, he finally has the chance to learn how to catch the ball in this offense. In the words of head coach Sean McVay, there are no limitations.  A running back in the Rams offense who is targeted in the passing game?  Fantasy Football heaven folks.

He has a ton of upside, both in the running game and the passing game. And now, with the chance to go back to OTA’s and learn the entire LA Rams offensive playbook, he will have that chance to be included in the entire offense.

The baton has been passed. Whether or not he rushes for 1,500 yards, score 16 touchdowns, or piles up another 800 yards receiving, he’s the guy behind Matthew Stafford this year.  History creates heroes. Right now, the LA Rams the perfect opportunity for Cam Akers to emerge as a breakout running back. With the endorsement of the coaching staff already, he will likely do exactly that.
