LA Rams: 5 players who could crack next year’s CBS Top 100
By Bret Stuter
Mr. Dependability
The NFL occasionally has a player whose consistency and dependability are so pronounced that it creates an aura of invisibility and anonymity. LA Rams wide receiver Robert Woods is one such player. Since arriving in the Rams offense in 2017, he simply lines up and delivers year after year.
In some regard, I suppose some of that can be attributed to the strong similarities that Woods and Kupp share in their game. Both are good at blocking and both are precise route runners. But Woods should not be compared to his teammate. Look what happens when we compare him to some of the biggest names in the NFL.
Of course, Woods’ consistency gives him a huge advantage in comparison with his contemporaries. And it’s that slow and steady production that creates the optical illusion that he is not as good as he truly is. Now that he has a new quarterback who tends to air the ball out a bit more, Robert Woods has the opportunity to exceed expectations.
It will take a career season to attract the attention of NFL statisticians and analysts, and that is what he will likely do this season. The Rams offense will be a bit different with Stafford under center. For a player who has made a career of dependability and consistency, change may prove to be a welcome addition.
