Now that the first wave of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) are over for the LA Rams, the coaching staff has seen the roster, installed new plays, and laid out a foundation that will serve the team through the 2021 NFL season. Perhaps moreso, the team has now had the chance to benefit from their first opportunity to directly meet all of the players on the Rams roster.

Until now, much of the work has been virtual and analysis, which is akin to finding your soulmate through any number of online dating options. Sure, it can be done, but the true test of any bond between two persons is that initial face-to-face encounter. And now, the LA Rams have passed that milestone.

But passing the landmark is one thing, being happy with the current roster is another thing entirely. After all, the LA Rams roster is prominently young, which brings with it the entire inexperienced and inconsistent components along for the ride. At times, the team has been able to overcome that inconsistent play with veteran leadership. But sometimes, the sheer lack of NFL playing time comes back to haunt the team.

Now that the Rams personnel department and coaching staff have had their first blush of meeting each player, the work intensifies. Players are given their responsibilities and roles, coaches must begin to assemble a first draft depth chart to structure drills around and against, and if there are any glaring weaknesses or depth issues with the roster, the front office begins the arduous task of identifying new players who could help the team this season.
