One of the opinions I most value early in an NFL offseason is the quoted first impressions of an incoming veteran and the perspective that they can offer while they still have some objectivity.  A year ago, veteran outside linebacker Leonard Floyd was new to the LA Rams roster but went on record to proclaim that the untested 2020 LA Rams defense would be a Top-10 performer even before the 2020 season began.

On NFL Total Access, LA Rams’ newest wide receiver DeSean Jackson appears to talk about the team, the offense, and his role on this video (starting at the 14:50 mark). DeSean Jackson has come home and is as optimistic and amped heading into a new NFL season as he has been in a very long time.

Jackson shares a lot of great insight about the Rams offense, and links back to his experience with LA Rams head coach Sean McVay. From Jackson’s own words, he knows the offense run by the LA Rams because it is very similar to the offense he had once mastered under McVay during their time together with the Washington Football Team:

"“You continue to be great and just throw the ball, and I’m going to continue to be great and run past everybody and use my speed,” Jackson said during a June 8 video conference. “I think that’s the good niche about it. We’re just going to be dialed in and continuously learn the plays, and once the season starts, we’ll be in rare form.” – Per therams.com’s Stu Jackson"

Of course, there will be areas where these Rams will struggle at times. Fitting all of the new and dynamic pieces will involve a bit of trial and error. The Rams will need to establish a running game to set up their passing game. And their home opener is the Chicago Bears, a defense that typically compels McVay to deploy two tight ends, sometimes one lining up in the backfield, and reinforcing the line of scrimmage with stronger-bodied sub-packages.

September is a true three-team test for the Rams, as they take on the Chicago Bears at home, the Indianapolis Colts on the road, and then host the defending Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers at SoFi Stadium. DeSean Jackson truly sees a special LA Rams offense emerging in 2021. That’s very good because this team will need all of the horsepower it can muster to win even the early games this year.
