LA Rams: All-Pro DL Aaron Donald Tops Colin Cowherds Top 10 NFL players

The LA Rams know that they have a dominating defensive lineman in All-Pro Aaron Donald. In fact, even those who do not follow the NFL know that Aaron Donald is synonymous with elite play for a professional football player. The annual stream of honors, awards, and accolades continues at a faster clip as he matures, to the point where he may truly be at the apex of his career.

We know that Donald will likely top a host of LA Rams franchise records. With just 2.5 sacks, Donald will best the franchise quarterback sack record. He already tops the franchise record of tackles for a loss at 131.  He is already number one on the Rams franchise list for quarterback hits at 201.

Now Aaron Donald comes in at number one once more. This time it’s Colin Cowherd’s Top 10 Players in the NFL.  And he beats out all of the competition. So why do we believe that Colin Cowherd gets this right? Well, here’s the breakdown:

In almost all other positions, whether it be quarterback, receiver, offensive lineman, or running back, the performance of one player is directly dependant upon the roster built around that player. A quarterback needs a good offensive line and receiving corps, a receiver needs a strong-armed quarterback and an offensive line, a running back needs a run-centric offensive line. Ultimately, the production of that individual is linked to, if not downright dependant upon, the performance of other players.

Donald, on the other hand, does not have the benefit of others to promote his statistics. In fact, offensive opponents often turn the attention of two or three offensive linemen at Donald with each play, forcing him to defeat double-teams and triple-teams to get to the quarterback and get a quarterback sack. That alone gives his teammates the advantage of facing minimal opposition. And yet it’s Donald who has consistently been the most dominating defensive force in the NFL.

That’s why he tops this list.

He’ll likely continue to top lists for years to come. Even as others eventually match his power and quickness, he continues to learn new ways to leverage his size to terrorize quarterbacks and ball carriers.
