Whitworth’s wisdom

Right now, the LA Rams offense has been under construction. The team has a new long-time veteran quarterback in Matthew Stafford, and everyone wants to know how the Rams offense will perform, how well Stafford will do, and how successful the team will be in 2021. Let’s understand that few if any NFL playoff teams trade their starting quarterback and multiple draft picks for another quarterback.

Unless you are the LA Rams, that is.

And so NFL reporters and analysts have lined up to hear first-hand about any noticeable changes in the Rams offense with Stafford under center. And of course, they have lined up to talk to Andrew Whitworth, because Whitworth successfully starter a new NFL career chapter after playing for many years with the team that drafted him.  At the 10:10 mark, the conversation turned to Matthew Stafford, and Whitworth shared this:

"‘(Matthew Stafford) is just yearning to have some success. And you see it in him, how hungry he is, how hard he works, and also just how talented he is. So I think that our whole football teams is obviously really excited about the opportunity to take the field with him this fall – Andrew Whitworth via interview with Jim Rome"

That is a pretty outstanding endorsement from a veteran offensive lineman, particularly this early in training camp. In fact, Whitworth goes on to discuss the value of having a veteran quarterback under center. That is critical in the Rams’ quest to win Super Bowl LVI.

While the Rams may be the youngest team in the NFL, the front office has certainly ramped up the level of experience at the quarterback’s position. From Whitworth’s perspective, it’s a huge advantage for the team come post-season play. Now, the trick is to keep Stafford healthy long enough to earn a playoff berth. Just leave that up to Andrew Whitworth. He is doing a remarkable job of leading one of the most underestimated offensive lines in the NFL.
