The guy just scores and scores

Putting up six points always has been his specialty, his forte, his calling card. In his five seasons as a Ram and his uber-important contributions to the team’s 2018 Super Bowl run, let the record show that Gurley scored 17 red zone TDs for the team. In fact, inside the 20, he was mister automatic. The Rams’ offense was so very good at scoring because they handed off the ball nearly 70 percent of the time to Todd Gurley within the 20-yard line. Whoomp! There it is!

Think that was a fluke? He scored 12 touchdowns in the red zone in 2019, even as his yards per carry dropped.  He scored eight touchdowns in 2020. The guy simply knows how to get into the end zone folks.

Third and goal – just get the center snap off cleanly, pivot, and put the pigskin squarely in his mid-section. Paydirt.

Dependability matters, particularly in the red zone where the real estate is far more valuable and the playing field is suddenly LA-traffic congested.

With a recent history of dealing with lower-body injuries likely diminishing his perceived value in many teams’ eyes, Gurley has not been signed on the dotted line yet on the free-agent market to this point. Yet there’s a number of teams that could use a player who brings to the table his experience, leadership, and mentorship, in addition to his red-zone scoring prowess.

One team that’s already kicked the tires on Gurley and had him on their radar was the Baltimore Ravens. . . and Gurley’s a Baltimore native, too. Bonus points for being a native son?

Gurley visited with the Ravens around a month ago and that sparked numerous rumors in Charm City that the team could possibly sign him. But he left town without being inked to a contract. Since then, nothing but crickets on the Gurley front — but that doesn’t mean the Ravens won’t be enticed into revisiting a deal before training camp.

After all, they run the ball more than any other team in the league (by a wide margin). Gurley might make a hella good RB insurance policy. Why does that even matter? Well, the LA Rams face the Ravens this season, and there is already the animus of former defensive back Marcus Peters highlighting that matchup. Gurley would double the Ravens’ focus on winning that one.
