If you ask for it, it will come

Here’s a thought: maybe AD’s time for a nickname is yet to come. That nickname tomato hasn’t yet ripened on the vine. Needs a l’il more time.  The full picture is yet to be revealed. Be patient, my son. There is a lot of chatter about the Aaron Donald effect.

Does it make sense to patent ‘The Effect’ for Aaron Donald must like Paris Hilton tried to claim the phrase “That’s hot!” as her very own brainchild? Or perhaps as Jersey Shore’s pseudo star Michael Sorrentino became known as the TV personality “the Sitch” or “the Situation”.

Or is it simply that we’ve lost our ability to be creative? That we are too focused on being entertained, that we’ve lost our imagination, our creativity, our fun? Have we forgotten how to laugh?

Could that time, that perfect storm set of circumstances that might give rise to a cool nickname, an unforgettable nickname arise at some future time?

As in, in Super Bowl LVI? The Rams defensive line coach Eric Henderson has used the mantra of “Dawg work” to pit the challenges of grueling demanding work to his defensive linemen. From that Dawg work defensive line, one obvious choice for Aaron Donald is too easy – Big Dawg.  Does that work?

Bonus trivia addendum: Dick “Night Train” Lane, who set an NFL record with 14 interceptions for the Los Angeles Rams in 1952 (a mark that still stands today, BTW) did not get his nickname for his speed. Nope. Instead, it came from the popular song of the time by jazz musician Jimmy Forrest.

LA Rams: 3 second-year players as potential Pro Bowlers. light. Trending

Apparently, teammate Tom Fears would play the “Night Train” record (click the link for a real treat in historic jazz) at training camp, and the song would always manage to lure in Lane for a listen from across the locker room. (Like the siren beckons the sailor?) Another player in the locker room said,  “Here comes Night Train.”

It stuck.

What’s gonna stick with AD? Okay, we’ve asked. Now all we can do is wait, and hope something very entertaining arrives soon.  Leave us your best suggestions in the comments section, and we can follow up with the best five nicknames.
