Did you know that so many NFL teams were so sympathetic to the LA Rams‘ recent misfortune at running back, that they are willing to part ways with their own running backs? Well, that’s the latest from Sports Illustrated John Maakaron, whose latest article details how the Detroit Lions Flagship Radio discussed an interesting trade scenario with the LA Rams.

In his article, Maakaron points to the frequency with which the LA Rams and the Detroit Lions have become trade partners this season. That seems to have prompted the developing NFL news story of the LA Rams’ recent setback due to the injury of RB Cam Akers.

And so, Tuesday’s edition of the”Karsch and Anderson” Lions Radio Show on station 97.1 The Ticket,  entered into a rather lively dialogue over the possibility if LA Rams General Manager Les Snead contacted Detroit Lions General Manager Brad Holmes to inquire if the Lions would be willing to part with a veteran running back.

In this scenario, the radio hosts speculated that the  Lions would indeed be willing to part ways with recently signed free agent running back Jamaal Adams for the tidy sum of a third-round draft pick. No doubt, Lions GM Brad Holmes would love to lift the second third-round compensatory pick award to the LA Rams for his signing with the Lions, and this would be a justified reason to do exactly that.

in this scenario, the Lions add one more valuable draft pick for the 2022 NFL Draft, and the LA Rams instantly restock their running back room with an NFL veteran in Jamaal Williams who is capable of leading the rushers for the Rams.

Williams is 6-foot-0, 213-pounds, and played four seasons for the Green Bay Packers. He is 26 years old, and is a native of California, having been born in Rialto.  His work on the Packers offense over the past four seasons means that he has been playing in a Packers offense over the past two seasons that is very similar to that of the LA Rams.

The Rams would assume $4.75 million of Williams’s contract over the next two seasons. The Lions would get hit with his $1.25 million signing bonus.  Even though head coach Sean McVay has squelched speculation over adding a veteran running back, for the time being, Williams is an intriguing option. Not only does he bring an immediate set of additional legs to run the ball, but he has a very good body of work as a pass receiver out of the backfield as well. And his size would make him the biggest running back on the roster.

Williams, adding both rushing and receiving yards, puts up from 675-820 yards per season. While a third-round pick seems fairly steep, he is not expensive, and the Rams could either trade or waive him down the road if/when Akers is ready to resume running the ball.
