Colin Cowherd drops Akers-less LA Rams below Chargers in rankings

The LA Rams without Cam Akers are suddenly a team that is no longer the best in Los Angeles per the NFL (sports) talk show host, Colin Cowherd. The NFC West does boast three of the Top-10 teams among the NFL. But the teams he has projected to make an incredible leap onto the playoff picture? Well…

Curiously, there is no NFC East team in the rankings. I can get onboard that. While some of the NFC East teams will likely improve this year, I can’t see any better than 9-7, and that’s not good enough. The LA Rams swept the NFC East in 2020. In fact, the NFC East played the NFC West a year ago, and that likely contributed to their dismal showing. They won’t face all of the NFC West teams this year, a fact some East Coast fans will be happy about.

He also proposes that three of the Top-10 teams will come from the NFC West. He likes the San Francisco 49ers at 10, the LA Rams at nine, and the Seattle Seahawks at four. The Seahawks may be a bit optimistic at four because they got bumped early in 2020 from the playoffs and now are suddenly the second-best team in the NFC? I just don’t believe that team has done enough to the offensive line and sustained the defense, enough for such a lofty spot.

I won’t argue the Rams spot. Cam Akers is gone for the season. A Top-10 spot without proof that the team has his successor in place is too much to debate. But the city of Los Angeles will not suddenly be led by the Chargers. Yes, the LA Chargers made a coaching change to make the team better. Yes, the Chargers poached the defensive coordinator who led the LA Rams defense to the top-ranked defense of the NFL. the guy completely messes up here:

The guy completely ignores the NFC North. That includes the Chicago Bears, the Minnesota Vikings, the Detroit Lions, and the Green Bay Packers. How can he ignore the Green Bay Packers? Who could truly believe that the Los Angeles Chargers are at least four spots better in the NFL rankings than the Green Bay Packers?

For that matter, no Miami Dolphins, no New England Patriots? Are the Los Angeles Chargers truly the seventh-best in the NFL, better than all of the excluded teams? Haha. No offense, but no. Just no. The Chargers could go 9-8 this year, but to best the Packers, they will need at least two more wins.

Rest easy Rams fans. Los Angeles is still LA Rams territory. But the LA Chargers have won over one LA pseudo-celebrity. Based on Cowherd’s latest NFL rankings, he is already trying to recruit more.
