Green dot go

In 2021, who got the green dot?

It is an important role, to say the least, and will bestow a bit of insight instantly as to how new defensive coordinator Raheem Morris will emphasize the defensive focus this year. Of course, any decision as to who gets the green dot accompanies its own designation. It’s unlikely that the green dot will be assigned to a player who is actively competing for a starting role. Flipping the green dot between players not only impacts that position but the entire defense.

That decision had to be instant and as permanent as possible under these circumstances. So it makes complete sense that, now that training camp has begun, that Fuller is wearing the green dot. (The dot is actually a sticker with a small NFL logo and a teeny lightning bolt on it). He will be calling the defensive coverages, and will be expected to continue in that role through the upcoming season,

It means Fuller will be calling the shots on defense, responding to instructions from the sidelines to align the D. It also means the team considers him the quarterback of the defense. It means he’s been deemed worthy, that the coaches trust his football acumen and intelligence. He’s inherited the role of former Rams safety John Johnson III, who departed via the 2021NFL Free Agency market to the outstretched arms of, and sacks of cash of, the Cleveland Brown this off-season.
