Hopkins plummeting?

Some players arrive at training camp with a fire already lit under them. Others sometimes need a bit of a reminder to get that sense of urgency. When the LA Rams added tight end, Brycen Hopkins, out of Purdue in the 2020 NFL Draft, the overwhelming consensus was that he was added to take over when the veteran tight end Gerald Everett’s contract expired. Hopkins arrived from a less talented and shallow tight end draft class, but he possessed an ability to make acrobatic catches. An intriguing prospect, to say the least:

But that doesn’t seem to be the case right now. His 2020 NFL Draft profile cut right to the chase, a potentially talented young man with below-average hands that can turn potential completions into drops. Well, if you were not aware, LA Rams head coach Sean McVay gets very pissed off when a receiver drops the ball. Is that what happened to Brycen Hopkins? Early training camp reports indicate that even with Jacob Harris on the sidelines, he is drilling with the 3s and 4s.

That’s not good news for Hopkins. In fact, it’s not good news for anyone as Hopkins was selected with a rather valuable 136th draft pick of the draft. Of course, there is still time to regroup and compete for a roster spot, but after the LA Rams drafted a very athletic Harris and designated him as a tight end to improve his chances of making the team, Hopkins had to know upfront that he was fighting for his NFL career in training camp.
