Overview

The LA Rams are still the same but are perhaps more ‘changed’ than at any point in time in head coach Sean McVay’s tenure.  As stated before, McVay has his first ‘new’ quarterback under center, and there is plenty to discuss there. But there has been quite an overhaul to the entire organization. The LA Rams lost defensive coordinator Brandon Staley after just one season, as he accepted the head coaching role with the nearby LA Chargers.

Both Brad Holmes (former Director of College Scouting) and Ray Agnew (former Director of Player Personnel) took on larger roles with the Detroit Lions. Holmes has a particularly astute football mind, as he was largely responsible for claiming DB Darious Williams off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens, and for drafting DB Jordan Fuller.  Both gambles have paid off rather handsomely so far.

Multiple positional coaches found work and promotions elsewhere as well, forcing the Rams to promote and hire new coaches to join the organization. Thankfully, they will benefit from a full training camp as well as three preseason games as scheduled to make introductions and assessments of the roster in terms of the depth chart and in terms of who makes the 53-man roster.

While there is much to love about the team already, the LA Rams have their share of adversity to overcome already.  The team learned that running back Cam Akers has been lost to the team for the 2021 NFL Season due to a torn Achilles Tendon. Also making the news, new offensive line coach Kevin Carberry has been quarantined due to positive testing for COVID-19. Head coach Sean McVay confirmed that Carberry is completely vaccinated.

To that point, highly intriguing wide receiver Tutu Atwell has also tested positive and has been assigned to the Rams Reserve/COVID-19 roster for the time being.  And finally, we learned that the highly athletic rookie tight end/wide receiver Jacob Harris has undergone a minor procedure and will not participate in drills for the next several weeks as his body completes the healing cycle. Three players are unable to drill, one of whom is lost for the season.  But don’t run off, it’s just about to get good now.
