3 keys for LA Rams

If you wanted clarity about the depth chart for the inside linebacker position, I hate to break the news to you, but it just got more confusing than ever. With the joint practice session, the Rams planned to put their starters to the test. So it was Kenny Young, Troy Reeder, and Micah Kiser that got a lot of work. So where does that leave Christian Rozeboom, Derrick Moncrief, rookie Ernest Jones, and ILB/S Jake Gervase? Well, tuning in to more future training camps for the answers, it seems

Yes, the Rams did run 12 personnel in the joint practice, but I can only confirm that it involved the combination of Tyler Higbee and Johnny Mundt. While Jacob Harris was involved in special teams, I did not have any notes on his play on offense, nor that of Brycen Hopkins nor Kendall Blanton. Perhaps they will be featured in preseason games. But it does seem to suggest that there is still a  wide-open competition.

While I hoped to have plenty to say about the offensive line configuration, I really don’t have much to add. Austin Corbett was the center, so that seems to reinforce the conclusion that this offensive line will be Andrew Whitworth, Davide Edwards, Austin Corbett, Bobby Evans, and Rob Havenstein. I did see some one-on-one play of both AJ Jackson at left tackle and some right tackle play by Tremayne Anchrum Jr. Both players were impressive, seemed to hold their own against the Cowboys defensive linemen, and maintained great form. I’m feeling much better about both players after this joint practice.

There is still so much more to unpack about the outcome of this joint practice, and what it all means for the LA Rams training camp as a whole. But the strategy of setting specific areas to focus upon truly helps in the event of chaotic coverage, as the lack of continuity hurts the ability to track multiple positions and depth rankings.
