Anchrum

While some of the LA Rams depth charts have shown returning players getting a nod over some of the younger additions, that is not the case for returning offensive tackle Tremayne Anchrum Jr. In 2020, he was one of the rising stars and had plenty of positives about training to play at virtually any offensive line position.

Anchrum is good at what he does when the pads go on. In the joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys, he showed up in that video as being someone quite capable of handling his business against defensive edge rushers.  Of course, he was working at the right tackle in those one-on-one matchups.

Now, he is backing up the backup at offensive left tackle. While that may not strike anyone else as problematic, six of the LA Rams’ top ten offensive linemen are either on the last year of their contract or are expected to retire. Was this the plan? Are the Rams planning to devastate their offensive line without the money to sign free agents, re-sign players to return, or without top draft picks to select rookies who can start immediately?

The Rams’ focus on getting the offensive center position right has taken their eye off the ball, away from the bigger picture. With Austin Corbett, Brian Allen, Chandler Brewer, Coleman Shelton, and Joseph Noteboom in their contract year, and Andrew Whitworth expected to retire, the team’s succession plan for the offensive lines has all the makings of a front office meltdown next year. Tremayne Anchrum has plenty of years remaining. But that won’t avail the Rams if he can’t make the roster.
