3 LA Rams players who earned their horns against Chargers
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams backups faced nearly the entire LA Chargers team, albeit the Chargers did eventually rotate through their roster. It was a pretty standard preseason game affair, all in all, with plenty of everything to take away what you wanted to find. It was a smorgasbord kind of night, plenty to feast upon all game.
I got the ‘gotta fix this’ set of observations out of the way first because it was all right there and it stared back at me. The game started at 7:00 pm PT, and by the time I had to shut it down for the night, I was well past midnight PT, already into Sunday, August 15, 2021. It was an incredibly entertaining game that seemed to fly by rather quickly. Surprisingly, this one was a light scoring affair. Well, not too surprisingly. The LA Rams held out their entire offense, and the LA Chargers did bench a handful of offensive starters.
It was a good game to be in the stands. But for those who were unable to attend, it was a good game to enjoy at home. And for the folks who were sidelining and calling out the names and numbers of players who were contributing throughout the game, a tip o’ the hat and a raised glass to you all. The coverage from everyone was solid and on point. It may have been two years waiting, but boy did it ever feel so great to finally get football back with cheers and boos from all of the fans in the stands at SoFi stadium.
There were plenty of players to mention, players who flashed brilliance, players who get an A for effort but need a bit of work, but there were three who stood out in this game as folks who scratched that very hard to reach itch on the roster. The LA Rams desperately needed someone to deliver on special teams, at the edge, and in the red zone.
Yes, I will have another article about the promising performances of other players. But in my mind, these three players showed me enough in this game to move them off the bubble and onto the LA Rams 53-man roster. How could I be convinced from just one game? Oh, not just one game. Rather one game that the opponent desperately wanted to win. Let’s dig right in and I can explain what I mean. Okay?
