Recap

This was the type of preseason game that truly has something for everyone to take away and hold up as evidence as to why the team is broken, ready, ill-prepared, set, dysfunctional, well-coached, headed for disaster, or en route to competing for a Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium in a few months. Many of the Rams players in this game won’t be carrying the lion’s share of the workload, so I wouldn’t get too excited over the status of the team just yet. But we can get excited over a few players.

The Golden Horns award for this one goes to outside linebacker Justin Lawler. Just hear what the LA Rams head coach Sean McVay has to say about the gutsy standout effort by the young outside linebacker in the video below (starting at the 1:00 mark)

Justin Lawler is a healthy 6-foot-4 265 powerful outside linebacker who could really elevate the play of the team’s entire defense. His contribution in the Rams’ first preseason game was far more than expected, and as such he is clearly in the mix for a roster spot at the edge.

Trending. A few concerns after LA Rams drop first preseason game. light

This one was not about the final score, who started, or who made big plays. The players who earned their horns in this piece did not do so by flashing in one play. All three have been putting in the time, practicing and training, and then practicing some more. And all three proved that all that time and effort can make good things happen. We have plenty to talk about today in digesting the Rams’ overall performance. But from our lookout tower, these three players earned their horns earned their horns.
