Duck! Hodges
Devlin Hodges (Duck) delivered the type of preseason game that I expected from him. A couple of long passes in the contest, but without the support of a good rushing offense, he would not be able to carry the team on his back. Actually, I take that back. I saw a bit less than expected. Yes, he is the newest addition to the Rams offense, and he did exhibit some good deception on play-action passes.

Los Angeles Rams
Hodges for the most part played in the first and third quarter in this one. That understandably was a bit of a challenge, in that the LA Chargers took the opening kickoff and drove the ball for 20 offensive plays and 10 minutes before settling for a chip-shot field goal.
And there are other factors that could have played a role in Hodges’s underwhelming performance. If the LA Chargers started the game with their defensive starters (which I believe they did), then it was Duck that faced the higher-rated defensive players consistently throughout the contest. As the Chargers began their substitutions, Bryce Perkins would likely face the backups to the players that Devlin Hodges faced
But I never had the feel of a quarterback who was overly confident in the pocket. The pressure made him nervous, and the Chargers were able to apply pressure. Hodges is just getting his feet wet in the LA Rams offense, and I get that. But I guess I expected more than 11 of 19 for 85 yards and an interception. Whether I was right or wrong to do so, I just expected more. That performance won’t do it.
