Yep. A quarterback was waived that I can honestly say makes sense for the LA Rams to kick the tires on. I’m talking about a young quarterback named Josh Rosen, a player who has been a bit of a nomad in his first three NFL seasons. Good? Not exactly. But we’ll talk about that later. He just was a guy who happened to be in the wrong position on the wrong team an incredible three times.

It started in the desert. He was drafted as the 10th player off the board by the Arizona Cardinals. But it was a bad team with a head coach on the hot seat. In fact, after playing one season where he appeared in 14 games for the Arizona Cardinals and started 13,  the Cards decided to go in a new direction. The team drafted rookie quarterback Kyle Murray.  Hello Kyle Murray. So long Josh Rosen.

The Cardinals traded Rosen to the Miami Dolphins for a 2019 second-round and a 2020 fifth-round pick. While that was exactly a good return on investment for the tenth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, it was the best offer on the table. The Cards pocketed the picks, and the Dolphins had a new young quarterback.

But that didn’t last long either. The Dolphins version of Rosen played in six games and started three. It was a new team, a new offense, and his production fell further.  At the end of the season, it was the Miami Dolphins’ turn to draft a new rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Hello Tua Tagovailoa. So long Josh Rosen.

So Rosen was gone again, in two years’ time, he was shown the door from his second NFL team. But he was not done, not just yet. He signed on to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad in 2020. Who would say no to being Tom Brady’s understudy? But he was signed away via a one-year prove-it deal with the San Francisco 49ers, a team that had a bit of a turnstile at the quarterback position in 2020. It seemed like a safe bet.

The 49ers had a veteran quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo.  The 49ers had drafted Trey Lance. Surely Rosen would be the ‘tweener’ guy who could back up either quarterback for the very affordable price of just $850,000 for an entire season.
